Optimistic Fair Exchange Using Trusted Devices
نویسنده
چکیده
Efficiency of optimistic fair exchange using trusted devices is studied. Pfitzmann, Schunter and Waidner (PODC 1998) have shown that four messages in the main sub-protocol is optimal when exchanging idempotent items using non-trusted devices. It is straightforward that when using trusted devices for exchanging nonidempotent items this number can be reduced to three. This however comes at the cost of providing trusted devices with an unlimited amount of storage. We prove that exchanging non-idempotent items using trusted devices with a limited storage capacity requires exactly four messages in the main sub-protocol.

A traceable optimistic fair exchange protocol in the standard model
An Optimistic Fair Exchange (OFE) protocol is a good way for two parties to exchange their digital items in a fair way such that at the end of the protocol execution, both of them receive their items or none of them receive anything. In an OFE protocol there is a semi-trusted third party, named arbitrator, which involves in the protocol if it is necessary. But there is a security problem when a...

Fair exchange protocols are important in realizing safe electronic commerce. In particular, optimistic fair exchange protocols, which involve a trusted third party only when mutual communication between exchanging parties fails, are the most promising development because of their efficiency. Unfortunately, however, existing optimistic protocols place restrictions on the items that can be exchan...
متن کاملA Survey on Optimistic Fair Digital Signature Exchange Protocols
Security services become crucial to many applications such as e-commerce payment protocols, electronic contract signing, and certified e-mail delivery, with the phenomenal growth of the Internet and open networks. For these applications fair exchange must be assured. A fair protocol allows two parties to exchange digital signatures over the Internet in a fair way, so that either each party gets...
متن کاملUsable Optimistic Fair Exchange
Fairly exchanging digital content is an everyday problem. It has been shown that fair exchange cannot be done without a trusted third party (called the Arbiter). Yet, even with a trusted party, it is still non-trivial to come up with an efficient solution, especially one that can be used in a p2p file sharing system with a high volume of data exchanged. We provide an efficient optimistic fair e...
متن کاملOptimistic Fair Exchange with Multiple Arbiters
Fair exchange is one of the most fundamental problems in secure distributed computation. Alice has something that Bob wants, and Bob has something that Alice wants. A fair exchange protocol would guarantee that, even if one of them maliciously deviates from the protocol, either both of them get the desired content, or neither of them do. It is known that no twoparty protocol can guarantee fairn...
